To give away

I own six copies of this book. Every time I see it in a thrift store or at a used book sale I have to buy it. White Oleander is one of my favorite books and I want to send a copy to one of my followers. Leave a quote from one of your favorite books in the comments by May 26th and I will pick a winner with a random number generator.

  1. i haven't read that many books in english but here's one:

" it was the nachos that did it.
the steaming variegated mess like the mess of her life
summing up all that was wrong
    with
    her
    life.
'time for change' comes the voice from the street.
outside on the kentish town road
    there is laughter
but here, in the smoky attic room
    there are only
    the nachos.
    cheese, like life, has become
    hard and
    cold
    like plastic
and there is no laughter in the high room."

  2. "I want you to listen to me very carefully, Harry. You're not a bad person. You're a very good person, who bad things have happened to. Besides, the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are."

I'm sorry to pull a Harry Potter quote, but this one by Sirius Black, is one I've brought up into conversations, as points in debate. I just love it.

  4. Consider
a girl who keeps slipping off,
    arms limp as old carrots,
    into the hypnotist's trance,
    into a spirit world
speaking with the gift of tongues.
She is stuck in the time machine,
suddenly two years old sucking her thumb,
    as inward as a snail,
    learning to talk again.
    She's on a voyage.
She is swimming further and further back

    -Anne Sexton

it's an extract poem i absolutely adore :)

  5. A quote from a book that made me feel.

"In bed that night I invented a special drain that would be underneath every pillow in New York, and would connect to the reservoir. Whenever people cried themselves to sleep, the tears would all go to the same place, and in the morning the weatherman could report if the water level of the Reservoir of Tears had gone up or down, and you could know if New York is in heavy boots."

  6. "Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars – points of light and reason. And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly, everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything."
    - Edward Cullen (New Moon)

  8. "I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren't pretty, or smart, or young. They're still princesses. All of us. Didn't your father ever tell you that? Didn't he?"

A little Princess, Francis Hodgson Burnett.

My favorite childhoof book before Harry Potter arrived.

  9. ^^Kudos to the princess quote.

    Here's mine:

    "Step follows step.
    Hope follows courage.
    Set your face toward danger.
    Set your heart on victory--
    Victory for Bamarre!"

The Two Princesses of Bamarre, Gail Carson Levine

One of my favorite books in elementary and middle school for very sentimental reasons.
