One a day

"At least I’ve learned this much:
Life doesn’t have to be
all poetry and roses. Life
can be bus rides, gritty sidewalks,
electric bills, dishwashing,
chapped lips, dull stubby pencils
with the erasers chewed off,
cheap radios played too loud,
the rank smell of stale coffee
yet still glow
with the inner fire of an opal,
still taste like honey."
— Julie Alger (1927 - 1994)

  1. Such wisdom. Life isn't meant to be all poetry and roses. It is our minds which should glow and find beauty where there is none.

  2. Ahhh.. but aren't these the very things that make up poetry? It is the eye of the beholder that makes life poetry or otherwise. Love it.
